Am kommenden Sonntag startet in Chemnitz die Tagung Mensch und Computer 2011. In diesem Jahr steht der Tagungsrahmen – zu dem auch der Usability Professionals Track und ein Block zu Entertainment Interfaces gehören – unter dem Motto “überMEDIEN ÜBERmorgen”.

Wie auch in den letzten Jahren ist die Forschungsgruppe Kooperationssysteme mit verschiedenen Beiträgen auf dieser Tagung präsent.

Am Sonntag, den 11.9.2011, findet von 9:00 bis 17:30 der Workshop “Motivation und kulturelle Barrieren bei der Wissensteilung im Enterprise 2.0 (MKBE 2011)” statt – organisiert von Athanasios Mazarakis, Simone Braun, Christine Kunzmann, Andreas Schmidt, Alexander Stocker, Alexander Richter und Michael Koch. (Auch ohne Beitrag ist noch eine Teilnahme am Workshop möglich.)

Im Laufe der Abendveranstaltung am Montag, den 12.9.2011, wird von der der Fachgruppe CSCW der Gesellschaft für Informatik und dem Internationalen Institut für Sozio-Informatik (IISI) der “Dissertationspreis für hervorragende Ergebnisse bei der Erforschung von Anwendungen der Informatik in sozialen Systemen” verliehen – siehe hierzu auf den Web-Seiten der Fachgruppe CSCW.

Am Dienstag, den 13.9.2011, sind wir beteiligt am Workshop “Senioren. Medien. Übermorgen” – Organisatoren: Martin Burkhard, Alexander Richter, Steffen Budweg, Alexander Stocker, Kurt Majcen und Michael Koch. (Auch hier ist noch eine Teilnahme am Workshop möglich.)

Auch am Dienstag findet schließlich noch ab 11:00 das Promovendenkolleg der M&C2011 statt – unter Leitung von Michael Koch.

Nicht zu vergessen sind natürlich auch die Gremiensitzungen, zu denen wir Beiträge liefern – ganz besonders die Mitgliederversammlung der Fachgruppe CSCW am Dienstag ab 17:45 Uhr.

Wir freuen uns auf spannende Diskussionen in den Workshops und Seminaren, bei den Vorträgen und Abendveranstaltungen und darauf bekannte Personen wieder zu treffen und neue Gesichter kennen zu lernen.

Vom 28.04. bis 01.05.2011 fand in Valencia der Creative Concept Finding Workshop zu unserem EU Projekt SI-Screen / ELISA statt, unter Beteiligung von neun der zehn Partner aus Deutschland, Spanien, Österreich und Italien.

Als Teil des Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme der EU hat das Forschungsprojekt SI-Screen / ELISA (Elderly Interaction & Service Assistent) das Ziel die soziale Interaktion älterer Menschen mit ihrer Familie, Freunden und Bekannten aus der näheren Umgebung zu erleichtern und sie beim Erhalt bestehender und Entwicklung neuer Kontakte und Freundschaften zu unterstützen. Darüber hinaus sollen ältere Menschen die Möglichkeit erhalten lokale und regionale Angebote, wie Events,  Sport- und Gesundheitsangebote zu finden und daran teilzunehmen.

Vor diesem Hintergrund wollen wir mit dem SI-Screen / ELISA ein technisch innovatives Produkt schaffen, welches die soziale Interaktion und Kommunikation auf Basis von Social Networking Services ermöglicht. Ziel ist dabei nicht, bestehende Arbeit aus anderen Projekten zu replizieren, sondern deren gewonnenen Erkenntnisse aufzugreifen und mit dieser Wissensbasis ein neuartiges technisches Gerät zu entwickeln. Ein Gerät mit grundlegend neuen Ansätzen im Bedienkonzept und der Benutzerschnittstelle, welches älteren Menschen den Zugang zu sozialen Netzwerken gewährt und Informationen über die Profile, Aktionen und das Auffinden von Verwandten und alten Bekannten bereitstellt (siehe Awareness; Koch, 2009).

Im Mittelpunkt des Creative Concept Finding Workshops standen die Vorstellung der Zwischenergebnisse der Teilprojekte sowie die Konzeptionierung des SI-Screens / ELISA Produktes. Die wichtigsten Zwischenergebnisse waren dabei die Ergebnisse aus der Zielgruppenbefragung unter älteren Menschen (60+) in Deutschland und Spanien. Als größte Probleme der Älteren wurden hierbei die eingeschränkte Mobilität, Gesundheitsprobleme und das Gefühl des Alleinseins angeführt. Im weiteren Verlauf des –Workshops wurde debattiert was notwendig sei, um den tatsächlichen Bedürfnissen älterer Menschen und ihrer Probleme zu begegnen.

Die Vorgehensweise der Konzeptrunden folgte nach Regeln der Holistischen Innovation (Eckehard, M. 2009), indem in Gruppenarbeit systematisch die Erwartung an die erwünschte Zukunft für ältere Menschen erarbeitet wurde. Eine Zukunft, für die im weiteren Verlauf des Projektes das SI-Screen / ELISA Produkt entwickelt werden wird. Mit Abschluss des Workshops wurde eine Einigung auf drei Kernfunktionen erzielt. Der (direkten und indirekten) Kommunikation (communication), dem Awareness Support bzw. Serendipität (be inspired) und der Informationsbereitstellung (information).

Zu den nächsten Schritten für das SI Screen / ELISA Projekt zählen die Aufarbeitung der Workshop-Ergebnisse. Darunter fällt vorwiegend die Ausgestaltung der finalen Entwürfe zur Funktionalität, der Hardware-Szenarien, des User Interfaces Designs, sowie der Umsetzung des Social Software Integration Layers (SI Layer). Der SI Layer stellt hierbei eine Social Middleware dar, welche die Anbindung an bestehende Social Software Services ermöglicht und von der zu entwickelnden softwaretechnischen Infrastruktur abstrahiert. Dieser Bereich liegt im Verantwortungsbereich der Forschungsgruppe Kooperationssysteme.

5th International Conference on Communities & Technologies – C&T 2011

The biennial Communities and Technologies (C&T) conference is the premier international forum for stimulating scholarly debate and disseminating research on the complex connections between communities – both physical and virtual – and information and communication technologies.

C&T 2011 welcomes participation from researchers, designers, educators, industry, and students from the many disciplines and perspectives bearing on the interaction between community and technology, including architecture, arts, business, design, economics, education, engineering, ergonomics, information technology, geography, health, humanities, law, media and communication studies, and social sciences. The conference program will include competitively selected, peer-reviewed papers, as well as pre-conference workshops, a doctoral consortium, and invited keynote and panel speakers.

PAPER SUBMISSIONS

All submissions must be written in English. Papers must be no longer than 10 pages, including all additional material such as references, appendices, and figures. Please format papers using the ACM SIGCHI two column layout available at http://www.sigchi.org/chipubform. Full papers must include a title, sufficient space for the author name(s) to appear on the paper, contact information and affiliations, abstract, keywords, body, and references. Papers submitted by the due date will undergo a double blind peer review process by an international panel and evaluated on the basis of their significance, innovation, academic rigour, and clarity of writing. Accepted papers will be included in the published conference proceedings if at least one author of any accepted submission has registered and attends the conference. Papers are submitted via an online submission system that will be opened in September 2010.

WORKSHOP PROPOSALS

Workshops are half day or full day sessions prior to the main conference program on 29 June 2011. Workshop proposals (max of 2 pages, using the ACM SIGCHI two column layout available at http://www.sigchi.org/chipubform) should be aimed at a community with a common interest. If you are working in an emerging area of Communities and Technologies, consider organising a workshop as an opportunity to advance the field and build momentum. C&T workshops might address basic or applied research and practice, new methodologies, emerging application areas, design innovations, management and organisational issues, or education. Each workshop should generate ideas that give the C&T community a new, organised way of thinking about the topic, or ideas that suggest promising directions for future research. Some workshops result in edited books or special issues of journals; you may consider including this goal in your workshop proposal.

DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM

The Doctoral Consortium is scheduled prior to the main conference program on 29 June 2011. The Doctoral Consortium offers research students a special forum where they can present, discuss and progress their research plans with peers and established senior researchers. Research students wishing to attend the consortium should submit 4 pages, using the ACM SIGCHI two column layout available at http://www.sigchi.org/chipubform, addressing 4 headings: Aims and Background; Significance and Innovation; Methodology; Questions and Issues (that is, identify those areas you seek feedback on). Places at the consortium will be offered based on a review of the submitted proposals.

VOLUNTEERS

C&T actively encourages students to volunteer at the conference. Being a student volunteer is a great way to support the research community, meet other students in the field, and attend an international ACM conference. You will help the conference organisers with the running of the conference and support the setting-up of presentations and workshops. You will see the latest in C&T research and development, and have fun while learning about running the conference. In return, you will get free registration.
